Flex in Flux

My plastic cups runneth over

with twist ties and elastics

tucked away for the just in cases

For a time when rubber and wire are currency

I recycle some of the wiry things at my monthly beyond the blue box event,

Which I attend religiously

Dropping off my recyclables like an offering

Others are bundled up and taken to work for reuse

Even more are tucked away for that rainy day

I know I have collector syndrome. Yes, I’m being inflexible

It’s hard for an environmentalist to throw things away

And you never know when twisty, stretchy things might come in handy.
