What I’m finding is that I’m attached to the story behind the objects in my collections. For example, my brother made the beautiful leather knapsack in this photo. The blue one is my very first knapsack, bought in my first year of university. Then, when we all became aware that lugging things to work in a tote slung over one shoulder was hard on our backs, I bought a “commuting” pack from Mountain Equipment Co-op. The Co-op part of MEC no longer exists. But I have many happy memories of shopping there and preparing for camping and kayaking trips. I only use a couple of these packs with any regularity now. Finally gave away the blue one to a local women’s charity. It’s a start.
