Corner Store Makeover

When I think of a corner store, I usually think milk, macaroni and junk food. In my mind, corner stores should not to be confused with green grocers, there are several excellent locations in my neighbourhood. But there is a corner store renaissance happening. A group of university students in San Francisco worked with a corner store owner to bring fresh fruit and vegetables to a food desert; the store became a drop off point for a Community Shared Agriculture program. There is a whole network called Healthy Corner Stores devoted to the movement.

Just one of the innovative programs we will be looking at during my Community Food Systems course, which I’ve now condensed into one day, with student pricing available.
