Canwest, the annual BC Landscape and Nursery Association show always has a great line-up of guest speakers and tours. Not to be missed in the pre-show clinics is Green Roofs & Living Walls 101 with a roster of 12 industry leaders, most notably local expert, Randy Sharp of Sharp and Diamond. There is a real emphasis on food this year too. Brian Minter will lead a seminar called Food Gardening: Where It’s Going and Its Huge Potential. There’s also a full day tour of Edible Gardens and Landscapes. There will be a session on the ban on the cosmetic use of pesticides, how it is affecting the industry and what alternatives are available. The urban foresters symposium is being held during the show as well with an interesting line-up of tree talks. Canwest 2012 will be held under the green roof at the Vancouver Convention Centre, September 19th through 20th, with shoulder events on either side. Registration is open now.
