Get connected to the Vancouver food security scene during this one-day course. Through a combination of mobile workshop, classroom presentations and discussions, participants will develop or expand their understanding of local food systems theory and application.
We will start by exploring the food system in a west side neighbourhood, evaluating both the assets and the gaps. Students will gain an overview of how we fare in terms of feeding ourselves in the region and the province. In the classroom, we’ll identify groups and projects currently underway in the city and how you can plug in to strengthen the local food system. We will also examine innovative initiatives and how local governments both here and around the world are taking action to create more resilient food systems.
Whether you’re a concerned citizen, planner, mid-career professional, municipal staffer or student, you will benefit from this one day intensive. You will leave with concrete strategies you can apply in your workplace, backyard, neighbourhood, community group or local government.
