I learned over the years, that playing board games was one of the ways to avoid confrontation with my family members. So at Christmas time and other extended holidays when hidden landmines were bound to be stepped on, I always pulled out a game from the stack we had collected: Monopoly, Trivial Pursuit, Yahtzee, even Rumoli. My parents and I still play an old card game at happy hour every time I visit. I also spent hours playing backgammon with my university room mate. And I learned to play chess with an old boyfriend. I don’t play board games much anymore, except the odd game of Scrabble. I think I’ll hang on to my small collection here though. You never know when the board game strategy may have to be employed.
