Cultural Gifts

Small theatre groups have been hit especially hard by funding cuts in the last few years. I have season’s tickets to my neighbourhood theatre. They’re called United Players and they operate out of a funky little space called the Jericho Arts Centre, right next to the most beautiful hostel on the planet, and yes, right on Jericho Beach. Some of the best plays I’ve seen in Vancouver have been there. Just because they’re a small company doesn’t mean the caliber of performance is low. In fact, I’ve found the opposite to be true. I’ve had season’s tickets to other larger arts groups over the years and have been disappointed with many of the plays. United Players also tries to keep their ticket prices reasonable, so that theatre is accessible to all. If you live in Vancouver, why not consider buying season’s tickets to your local theatre group as gifts for family and friends this year. There are three more plays in the United Players suite for 2011/2012: Duet for One, Burnt by the Sun, and London Assurance, all for $48!  If you buy before Christmas, you’ll also be entered in a draw for a free pair of season’s tickets for their 2012-13 season. Mention me when you buy and my name will be entered too. Merry merry all around!
